Netflix is taking One Piece to the big screen for fans
As Netflix prepares to release Season 2 of its live-action adaptation of One Piece, the streamer has announced a theatrical fan event that will screen the first two episodes on the big screen. The limited run will play in roughly 200 theaters across the U.S., Canada and Japan, giving audiences a rare opportunity to experience the new season’s opening in a communal, cinematic setting before the series arrives on Netflix.
Tickets go on sale Thursday, February 26 at 8 a.m. PT / 11 a.m. ET and will be carried by major chains including AMC, Regal, Cinemark, Alamo and Cineplex.
What the theatrical event will show
Netflix says the screenings will present Episodes 1 and 2 of Season 2. The streamer has also released a fresh trailer on its Tudum site showcasing expanded action sequences, emotional moments, and new looks for the Straw Hat crew. The theatrical rollout is positioned as a celebration of the series’ return and a way to drum up momentum ahead of the streaming premiere.
When Season 2 arrives and what it covers
One Piece Season 2 launches on Netflix on March 10, 2026. The new season picks up with the Straw Hat Pirates as they enter the Grand Line, encountering unfamiliar islands, new sea creatures, and fresh rivals — all while continuing their quest toward the legendary treasure, One Piece. Iñaki Godoy returns as Monkey D. Luffy, and the season will introduce additional characters to the live-action roster alongside familiar faces from Season 1.
Netflix greenlit Season 2 just two weeks after Season 1 finished airing, and after a roughly three-year gap between seasons the show is finally returning to screens.
Production background and creator involvement
Throughout production, Netflix released teasers and casting updates to keep the fanbase engaged. Creator Eiichiro Oda — whose manga provides the template for the adaptation — has confirmed involvement with Season 2, and the live-action series continues to build on the world established in its first season.
Key show credits include showrunners Matt Owens, Steven Maeda and Joe Tracz, with direction across the series from Tim Southam, Marc Jobst and Josef Kubota Wladyka. The original series page lists producers and executive producers who helped bring the adaptation to life.
2026 is a pivotal year for the One Piece franchise
Beyond the live-action series, 2026 marks significant changes for the long-running One Piece anime. Toei Animation has announced that the anime will shift from its traditional weekly episodic schedule to a seasonal format when broadcasts resume in April. Under the new plan, the series will produce up to 26 episodes per year, released in two parts, with the change intended to better match the manga’s pacing and incorporate more of the source material. The seasonal approach will begin as the anime adapts the Elbaph Arc.
